First Peter was written to Jewish Christians who were spread throughout Asia Minor, which is present day Turkey. This Second letter is written to Christians everywhere. Peter had a sense that his death was coming soon, and this letter was written to remind Christians everywhere of those eternal things that were of greatest importance (2 Peter 2).    – Peter reminded his readers that Jesus could return at any moment. “God isn’t slack concerning His promises, but is patient…” (2 Pet.3:9).  And since we know this present world will all burn one day, we should be compelled to live with eternity in view.   This 2nd letter is summarized in the last two verses, “You therefore, beloved, since you know this, beware lest you also fall from your steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.”  – Chuck Smith
