When Jesus spoke to the church of Ephesus He said “.. I have this against you, that you have left your first love…Repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly & remove your lampstand” (Rev.2:4-5). In that vision Jesus was walking in the midst of the seven golden lampstands, which represented the churches. The warning to Ephesus was; “If you don’t repent I will remove My Spirit from the church.” In Ephesus today there are only ruins of a once great city. And there is not one single Christian around Ephesus. Jesus wants our love to be fervent. He wants us to always be filled with the Spirit. “First love” refers to the time Paul came to them & they received the Holy Spirit (Acts 19). But at the end of the first century, the Ephesians had left the love of their life, Jesus, and finally there was no church at all. This is another warning to Christians about how important it is to nourish our Love for, and our Faith in the things of Christ. We know that Jesus will never leave us or forsake us, (Hebrews 13:5) but I pray that we will never leave or forsake Christ, but will always stay close to Jesus.
