The Church at Sardis (Rev.3:1-6) represents the Protestant Reformation, which began in the 1500. Jesus found the church at Sardis to be incomplete because they kept many of the pagan traditions of the Roman church. It grew into an organized religion that was soon dead. It is sad to see many Protestant churches today as dead as the church they set out to reform. Jesus comes to Sardis with the only One who can make them alive again, and He is God the Holy Spirit.
