May 1, 2016 “Spiritual Truth or Error” – 1 John 4 – CD#1596

1 John 4

1 John 4 We have overcome the Error of the Enemy because He who is in us is greater than “he who is in the world.”  Christians have the victory because Jesus, The Truth, lives in us. Satan is the god of this world, but it’s only temporary. Man gave dominion over to Satan when he disobeyed God. But God’s Holy Spirit lives in us, and we are born again. We don’t worry about Satan’s error and lies.  Christians don’t have to worry about being demon possessed. We have the Holy Spirit of God living in us. And our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will soon return, and take dominion over this world once again.

April 24, 20-16 “Love In Deed & Truth” – 1 John 3:10-24 – CD#1595

1John3.16

Our love is not to be just a spoken love; “I love you, brother! I love you so much.” In fact, I often get a little suspicious of someone who is constantly telling me how much they love me; unless they are my children or grandchildren.   (1 John 3:10-24)                   Love is not shown by words alone. Talk is cheap. Love is shown by actions. “God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we yet still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom.5:8). Jesus didn’t come to earth and say; “I Love you,” and then let us go on in our sins and into hell. He loved in actions and in truth, and we are to do the same.

April 17, 2016 “Behold God’s Great Love”-1 John 3-CD#1594

1 John 3-1

Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has not seen Him or known Him.”! (1 John 3) Does this mean that you have to live a perfect, sinless, life in order to know God? John told us in Chapter 1 that we all sin; and if we say we do not sin, we are making God a liar and deceiving ourselves.     What John was writing here is that you can’t just continue to sin, as a way of life, and think you are a Christian. It is not that we don’t ever sin at all. It is just that our way of life should be changing, and growing away from the old sinful habits; and though we still make mistakes, and stumble occasionally, our lives have changed. There is a pattern of repentance that all can see.

April 10, 2016 “Personal Spiritual Battles” 1 John 2:12-23 – cd#1593

1John2.15

When we are Born Again, we discover that we are in a Spiritual battle! Satan would enslave each one of us, while Christ would free us. Satan uses force, deception, and treachery to enslave people to sin, while Jesus’ Love and Power brings us freedom from slavery and sin to save us.

As Christians we must stay on the offensive in this battle. The Faith we have in Christ is our Spiritual Shield. God’s Word is our Spiritual Sword. When Jesus fought the Enemy in the wilderness, He used God’s Word against Satan, and won the victory. We are strong when the Word of God lives in our hearts. We have won the victory!

April 3, 2016 “To Know Him Is To Love Him” 1 John 2 – cd#1592

1 John 2

Did Jesus Die for you?  In Calvinist theology, there is a doctrine called “limited atonement.” According to this theological position, Jesus only died for the elect, or those who were chosen by God. But 1 John 2:2 says: “He is the payment for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world”. This verse makes it clear that His atonement was unlimited. Jesus didn’t just die for our sins; He died “for the whole world.”      How glorious it is that we can declare to any person in this world, “Jesus died for you”!                               –  Pastor Chuck Smith 1927-2013
