The book of Second Peter was written shortly before his death in 67 A.D. In Peter’s first letter he spoke of suffering and the hope of heaven. In this second letter he writes about the heresy and apostasy that was growing in the church and would be increasing in the future. Knowing God only comes through knowing God’s Word. And with all the clever, false teachings around, the answer is not to understand false teachings, the answer is to understand God’s Truth, and compare every teaching to that. Peter summarized this letter in the last two verses: “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware, lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.
